ER Trip With Eric

Friday night was an interesting night for us. We went to bed early because Eric had a cold and took some Nyquil so he could sleep well. At about 11:40 pm, he sat up with a start and grabbed his chest. He rolled out of the bed and ended up in a fetal position on the floor. I asked him if he was okay and he said, "My chest hurts, something is really wrong." I immediately panicked because Eric's dad died suddenly of a heart attack last year at the age of 58, so I called 911. We rolled Eric downstairs to wait for the EMTs and after about 5 minutes some incompetent fireman showed up. They could barely take his blood pressure and kept saying stupid things, like "try to get comfortable" and "just relax." Meanwhile, Eric is chewing on his own hand, writhing in pain on the floor, and I am crying on the couch wondering why the stupid ambulance is taking so long. Finally after 20 minutes, I got ready to take Eric to the hospital myself, but just as I grabbed the keys, the EMTs showed up. I followed the ambulance in my car, but when I got to the hospital they wouldn't let me back to see him. I had to sit in the waiting room for another 20 minutes not knowing what was going on with Eric! Finally, I stood by the glass doors until someone noticed me and let me back. When I got to Eric's room, he was just laying there calm. Unbelievably, his pain disappeared 10 minutes after getting to the hospital. They did X-rays and blood work and couldn't find any reason for the pain. Once Eric could talk to me, he said the pain was actually right below his breastbone instead of his heart, so it most likely wasn't heart related. It was such a scary night for me and I'm still unsettled not knowing what caused it. You know Eric, he's such a tough guy, so to see him in pain like that means something had to be wrong. I'm relieved it wasn't something serious, but the mystery is killing me!

Thank goodness for my friend Jordan who came over and stayed with my boys while we were at the ER and calmed me down while I waited for the ambulance. Thank you Jordan! We'll keep everyone posted if the mysterious pain reappears!

That is so scary! I'm so glad everything is OK. I can't even begin to imagine how terrifying that must have been for you.

Wow, Megan. That is really scary. I am so glad that everything turned out OK. I would have been a wreck. Sorry you both had to go through that.

Wow---That is so scary! Poor guy! Ryan had a mystery pain and it turned out to be a kidney stone. We have sworn off Nyquil at our house because of some bad experiences--soo sorry--glad to hear he is ok!

You are amazing. I don't know what I would do if that happened to me. I'm sorry that it happened. I hope that it was just some random pain and that Eric is healthy and well. Just don't go looking on web md and give yourself more to worry about. Whenever I do that I am convinced I have a tumor or a deathly disease.

Wow...I happened to be checking blogs today. Yours definitely has the most dramatic story on it. I'm glad everything is okay - it sure makes you realize how we take "being young" for granted...the mystery would be the hardest thing for me too!
