Suburbians???

Saturday morning we pulled up to a massive soccer field in our Honda Pilot, amongst hundreds of similar SUV's, for Mason's first soccer game. As we hauled our cooler and kids to the Tiger's field, I thought, "Look at us. We are true suburbian's." But then I realized, you have to live in a suburb of a big city to be considered a suburbian and Grand Junction doesn't exactly qualify as a big city. But let me assure you, there was no shortage of over excited parents and SUV's, despite Grand Junction's meager size.

Mason was so excited to be playing soccer. His team consists of six 5 year old boys and a parent coach who is great with the kids. They don't keep score and are pretty lenient with rules, so the kids have a great time. Mason scored 3 goals (I know, I know, we aren't supposed to count) and was on cloud nine the rest of the day.
This is a picture from practice the day before. My friend has a nice camera and captured this cute shot of her son and Mason. During the first practice, the coach set up a little scrimmage. Mason hardly touched the ball because he was always setting himself us for a pass, which never came. After practice he said, "Mom, how come nobody passed the ball to me?" I then had to explain the reality of five year old soccer to him - chase the ball with all the other kids and try to kick it as many times as you can. The next morning at the game, I could still sense a little uneasiness with this strategy, but after about 5 minutes of play time he caught on and stuck witht the herd the rest of the game! It's sad that I had to convince him to play this way, but I knew it would be the only way he'd touch the ball and have a good time - and he did!

What did Logan do while Mason played soccer? He flirted with the sisters of other players and harassed the kids on the sidelines, of course. Was he jealous of Mason playing, you ask? Did you read that there were girls around? Question answered.

I LOVE soccer season! It's so much fun! Last year all 3 kids were playing. This year it will be all 4! My MIL once told me that she used to spend the entire day at the soccer fields with a cooler for at least 2 meals packed inside! Enjoy! Cute picture too- he looks pretty happy!

So fun! First off...yea for the new car! I didn't know you got one, that is exciting. Tell Mason GREAT JOB on the goals and I love your explanation of 5 year old soccer you gave him....it is sooo true! And how did you get Logan to like girls?? Brannon still is anti everything girl and loves to torture his cousins. It can drive us crazy!

I LOVE little kids playing sports! Mason looks so grown-up and I can totally see him wanting to play soccer the "right" way. He is such a smart 5 year old. When did Logan's girl craze start??? You are going to have your hands full with those great looking boys! Congrats on the new car.
