Ahhh....Christmas in the mountains. It was perfect! I could stop there, but I guess I should give a little more detail for those of you not sure what we did this year. We rented a cabin a couple hours from home up in the mountains. We arrived on Christmas Eve and after some traditional Christmas Eve festivities, we put the kids to bed, anxious for Santa to arrive. We were awoken at 12:30 am by Mason, who ran up to our bedroom (past all the presents) declaring, "Santa was here, Santa was here!" We convinced him to lie down with us, but he didn't go back to sleep until about 2:30 am because he was so excited. Then Logan woke up at 6:00 am whispering/yelling "Santa came!" We kept them in bed for another 30 minutes and then realized the waiting was useless. Maybe it was the concern that Santa wouldn't find us at the cabin that made them so anxious, but whatever it was, we need to figure out a way to get more sleep next Christmas Eve!
Poor Paige reluctantly woke up for the present opening, but didn't fully appreciate what all the hype was about. In fact, she really didn't care about anything except the candy canes.
Topping the boys Christmas list this year was Bronco's jerseys. Mason has been asking for one for over a year now and we have tried to fulfill the need with anything but a jersey - hats, sweatshirts, etc., but to no avail. So now we have a Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal (are those names right?) running around our house. Mason is a football fanatic. He can talk football for an hour straight - players, injuries, strategy, season records, it goes on and on. I feel bad because I kind of tune him out when he gets on a football tangent, but really it's because I can't keep up! Eric makes up for my lack of enthusiasm and is constantly throwing the ball with him in our living room - great place to practice, only one broken glass bowl so far :)
Eric grew up with the tradition of a cinnamon roll Christmas tree for Christmas breakfast, so I tried to give him something similar - a cinnamon roll wreath. That counts, right?
After breakfast Logan tried out the snowshoes, he has coordination and style. Can't you tell? We had a great, relaxing day as a family - watching movies, sledding, playing with new toys, and going in the hot tub. I kind of missed the craziness of Borgquist Christmas traditions, but I also enjoyed our first Christmas with just Eric and the kids. It was so nice to watch our kids play together and lay around in our pajamas with no agenda.
The day after Christmas, Kirsten and Chris drove from CA to join us at the cabin. Our kids were so excited to have their cousins come visit! On Sunday we drove up to Telluride to check it out. It was gorgeous, but FREEZING! Don't be fooled by this sunny photo, it's very deceiving! So, we didn't stay too long because there wasn't anywhere to hang out inside without spending a ton of money or causing a scene with our 6 kids.
Paige all bundled, but hating the backpack of course.
Riding the Gondola between Telluride and Mountain Village (that's Mason and Morgan in the dark) was the highlight. It was free and gave us a view of all the surrounding mountains. We wished we were skiing though - the slopes were empty!
Our kids spent a solid 2-3 hours everyday in this hot tub. Going from snow to tub was a big hit, but it was so icy getting in and out of the hot tub I was sure someone was going to break their neck every time they got out!
Sledding was probably the second most favored activity of the trip. The sled train was fun but dangerous, we thought Mason broke his leg at the end of this run because it got caught under the sled - ouch! But we had a lot of other fun, ouchless trips down the hills!
Snowshoeing came in third among the majority, but ranked first in my book. There were so many beautiful places to explore. We saw several properties that we would have given our right arms to own but the cheapest property for sale was $1.5 mill - guess that will have to wait!
It was hard to say good-bye to our mountain retreat. We'll definitely have to do it again. Kirsten and Chris came back to GJ with us and spent an extra day here because we had a snowstorm that made a mess of all the roads from here through UT. We loved spending the week with them and appreciated the effort they made to come to CO. Happy New Year and best wishes for 2010!

Glad you had so much fun over Christmas. Looks so beautiful where you were. Happy New Year!
Thanks again for an awesome week! We had so much fun with you guys.
Paige looks so grown up in her picture by herself! What a fun way to spend Christmas. Hope you had a great New Year too!
That sounds so fun, Megan! It must be so great to be so close to all of that cabin awesomeness. The hot tub part scared me too--your kids are brave. I also love the football obsession. Is Eric even into football? I can't believe Mason woke up that early. Cyra definitely got what was going on, but she loves her sleep so she slept until about 9 or so, which is early for her.
Also, I meant to include the girls' trip on my top ten, but I guess I didn't think it counted as a trip because I stayed here technically. But I did mean that trip when I wrote about keeping in touch with old friends. I changed that to make it more clear. That was definitely one of the highlights of the decade for me.
The other thing that was really interesting is that I wanted to put our Europe trip in there as one of the best trips ever, but it was more than a decade ago. Isn't that crazy? I don't know why that is so hard for me to believe.
Looks like lots of fun. It is so nice to have a lazy Christmas with family. Those cinamon rolls looked yummy...can I have the recipe? I think that it is great taht Mason is so into football. I can't wait for Kyle to be old enough to pick a sport to love. Happy New Year!
You guys had an awesome break! Glad to see you were feeling good :) I can't believe how grown up Paige looks in her present picture. She is such a little beauty!
