Goofin' Off

Eric's first item of business when we got to this new house was organizing his garage. There was some discussion of the elk going above the fireplace, but you can see who won that debate. Once all the outdoor gear was organized, we were able to start goofing off.
The boys love picking vegetables from the garden that was started by the previous tenant. She planted four varieties of squash, which is a little much for me, because I really don't know what to do with it. We also have zucchini, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, one cantaloupe, and two watermelons growing on the vines. Not much need for buying produce here!
We went down to Pueblo to visit Eric's mom, his sister's family and grandparents. We also got to visit with Eric's brother Adam and his family who drove down from Denver. We are about 5 hours from Eric's family, so I'm sure we'll be visiting often.
Eric's mom and the kids
While we were in Pueblo we bought a little furniture. Our house is still very bare and our TV is still on the floor, but at least we can watch it comfortably now.
We checked out a lake that is 15 minutes from our house. It is small, but it was very warm, and would be great fun for water skiing adventures in the future.
This is cowboy country, so of course we had to go to a rodeo. The kids were thrilled to get out their jeans and cowboy boots. We just need to get them some hats now and they will fit right in. I was even kind of wishing I had a cute western shirt and boots for the event.
Black Bart, the bull
Cute kids, right?
We went hiking in the Colorado Monument, which is an amazing area of red rock formations, just minutes out of Grand Junction. I was so excited to be able to go hiking just 10 minutes from home and it was so beautiful!
I was holding Logan's lollipop while he scrambled up a rock and Eric noticed Paige trying to grab it. He got out the camera just as she caught hold and tried to stuff it in her mouth. This girl is getting too big!
Our next hiking adventure was to the Grand Mesa, which is 35 minutes from our home. It is the highest flat topped mountain in the world. There are little lakes everywhere that are crystal clear and full of fish. As we watched the fish jump all over, Eric was kicking himself for not brining the rods - next time!
In his element, for sure.
Eric leaves for Philly on Tuesday to finish up some work at Temple and then when he returns it will be time to start work. I'm a little sad that our goofin' off time is getting cut off, I was just getting used to this. But at least we've had time to discover how many opportunities there are for us here - it's going to be a great place to live!

I like the new couches and your kids are gorgeous! I can't believe you are already feeding Paige lollipops. What kind of mother.... Just kidding. I think the Elk belongs in the garage. No need to have that above the fire place.

You guys do such fun things together as a family. Erik's family has a cabin on the Mesa that we have gone to almost every year, except this year (they are selling it) How were the mosquitos? I heard they were bad this year.

I can't wait to show Ryan the picture of the elk hanging in the garage!! You go girl! I swear I'm the only mean wife who won't let the animals hang on our walls. Glad to see that you are settling in!

Wow, I've missed a lot of pictures. The house looks great and Grand Junction looks like a good fit for you guys! It was great to see you guys this week. Mason asked if you were coming over again the next day; the kids had so much fun.

Ryan and I laughed hard watching the boys wiz down the hill (over and over), that is so hilarious! I'm sure the freeway drivers enjoyed it and told everyone they knew about it. And everything else you posted looks great-and fun... Glad to see you all enjoying yourselves during Eric's time off. Sure wish we could've been at the Pueblo get-together!

I'm glad Eric found a place for his dead/stuffed animals! It looks like you guys will be much more at home in Colorado than in Philly--congrats on graduation, etc!

Your new house looks great! I loved the videos of the kids going down the mountain...sounds like something Rusty would do with our kids during a road trip to break it up a bit! Hope you are getting settled ok. And way to go to put the elk outside...that's where they belong! :)
