Classic Logan

Logan is OBSESSED with catching grasshoppers. He used to keep 5-8 in his cage at a time until they started eating each other - GROSS! Now he keeps them separate, but tries to use sippy cups to keep them in - GROSS! So, I've been trying to dissuade him from catching grasshoppers by teaching him about animal cruelty. Tonight I was telling him how he really shouldn't just keep his grasshoppers caged up to watch them slowly die (although he does put grass in and water droplets to help keep them alive) because it's mean and sad.

He looked at me and said,

"But Mom, they get resurrected."

Fourth of July

When I was a kid we spent a couple vacations at my uncle's ranch in Boulder, UT. It is a tiny, tiny, tiny town, but is a kids paradise. This year, we had a Borgquist family reunion there for the Fourth of July. I have been delaying this post because I wanted to get the pictures of all of us together to post on here, but I give up. Let me just tell you, there were A LOT of Borgquist's at the party! Somewhere around 70 (50% of them under the age of 8) and I'm not exaggerating! If I ever get a picture of everyone, I will post it. It's quite a site!
We ate the best chocolate donuts from a local bakery at least twice a day. The dining table was covered with about 15 boxes of these donuts and you could always count on seeing someone walking around with one (which in turn would make you want one!). The kids thought it was heaven to have chocolate donuts day or night!
My dad and uncles built this tire swing many, many, years ago and it is still the most popular swing around. Paige and Andrew never wanted to get out, but they always had a line of kids waiting to get in!
My uncle arranged for horses to be available and the kids couldn't get enough.
Mason got to ride all by himself, which was the highlight of his life. This kid has been crazy for horses since he was one - Idaho blood runs in his veins!
Paige must have the same Idaho blood because she could have stayed on the horse all day. If she ever got a minute alone, she tried to find her way to the barn to feed the horses.
There are so many amazing hikes around and this one in particular was to a place called Upper Calf Creek Falls. It's a series of little falls that end in nice swimming pools and then a big fall at the end. Everyone (except the smart ones) took turns diving/jumping off these rocks into this pool of the most freezing water you have ever felt! Mason even jumped in, without a moments hesitation! This picture is of my brother-in-law Chris showing off his superman moves.
Here is Mason on a natural little water slide.
And a bunch of the kids watching Chris (showing off again) jumping into a deep crevice between two rocks. You can see down at the end of the shot where the huge waterfall drops off the rocks.
Hanging out eating lunch and more candy. I don't think Paige ate a single health item the entire weekend!
The kids also got to go fishing at the most perfect little water holes. They would throw out their lines and immediately have a fish on. I told you this was a kid's paradise!
Proud little Logan!
Boulder has an annual Fourth of July Parade that we decided to participate in. We decorated a trailer and truck and brought festive shirts, headbands, tatoos, etc. for the kids and set off down "Main St."
Paige thought she was pretty cool riding in the back of the truck!
Some beautiful Borgquist women...
A highlight of the weekend was the Borgquist Family Talent Show. My sisters and I made tutu's beforehand and choreographed a dance number to "She's a Grand Old Flag." I had to include this picture to show proof that I can jump (it's been a family joke for years that my vertical jump is only about a 1/2 inch!).
We put on a grand performance and made our parents (and kids) so proud! Haha, it was really a big joke, but we had a blast.
I love these sisters of mine!
My kids had their first experience with sparklers and thought they were super cool. From sunup to sundown we were having fun every minute. I am so grateful to be part of such a fun, loving, supportive family, and I can't wait for the second Borgquist Family Reunion!

Happy 5th Birthday Logan!!!

Logan turned five on July 2nd and to celebrate we had a pirate party - argh!
We played lots some pirate games - pin the ship on the sunken treasure, peg-legged pirate race, sink the boat with water cannons, and of course a pirate treasure hunt. We also ate seaweed and shells (spinach fettucine with shell noodles) for dinner with fish soup to wash it down (blue jello with swedish fish). The kids were relieved when they saw the menu wasn't quite as scary as it sounded!
All the kids got pirate bandanas, gold rings, and necklaces to decorate - they looked pretty tough!
A special treat was the addition of Shauna Brown and her family to our party. They were on their way to California and stopped here for a night on their way to break up the drive. After the party we got in the pool for an evening swim and the kids didn't want to get out until after 9! It was the perfect ending to Logan's special day.
Paige and Bradli didn't want to get dressed after their swim suits came off and ran around naked thinking they were so funny. I drew the line when they were jumping naked on my couch, neither of these silly girls are potty trained - dangerous!

Exterior House Shots

For those of you who requested pictures, here you go...just a couple to appease. We have three acres and a lot of grass to mow!
The highlight of the house is the pool. My kids and I have been in the pool pretty much every day since we moved in! With temps getting up to 105, what else is there to do?
We were lucky enough to get my dad's hammock that he brought back from Guatemala in 1972 to add to our backyard lounging enjoyment. It's a little ragged, but still super fun and comfy!

JUNE

After moving in to our new house at the end of May, and Eric working his first couple shifts at his new office in Farmington, NM, it was time to head to Cali for a much needed vacation. One hour after arriving in San Diego, Eric packed up and headed to Baja with my dad, brother-in-law Chris, family friend Jim and his son Jimmy. The girls got left behind, but we had our own fun.
The guys drove all the way from San Diego to Cabo on this trip, fishing and diving at different spots along the way in the Sea of Cortez. This picture was taken on the way down when they were all still relatively fresh and clean.

They took a ponga out one day and caught all the fish they could handle. In addition to humongous fish, Chris caught a huge bat ray and Eric caught a shark.

Here is Eric bringing up a fish. The guys were all bruised on their hips after this day from fighting these big fish.
Some of the catch..
Happy guys...
We've been eating this yellow tail weekly since we got home and it is sooooo good! Thank you fishy for providing us with some excellent meals!
The rest of their fishing adventures were on the kayaks. My dad was pretty proud of this catch. I don't remember what is called, but apparently it was an excellent fighter and a much sought after fish in the world of kayak fishing. Nice job, Dad!
The guys camped on the beach for much of the week in spots like this, where they could go out on their kayaks first light on water like glass. I was pretty jealous when I saw these pictures. I love baja!

While the guys were gone, we stayed busy with our own clipboard of fun. First on the agenda was the Camp Pendleton mud run! It was a 10K that took us through streams, lakes (we literally had to swim, not an easy feat in mud caked running shoes), mud pits, and spray from firefighter hoses. We also had to climb over walls and crawl under ropes, all in the mud! It was a really fun race and I was so happy to do it with my sisters and our friends Katie and Tommi. You can't even tell how dirty we are here, but let me assure you, we were really dirty.

We took the kids to Sea World one day and during the Shamu show our big kids wanted to sit in the "splash zone." Kirsten and I didn't want the babies to get soaked, so we sat up at the top of the splash zone where we could still see our kids but thought our babes would be safe. Our big kids did get soaked and our little ones just wanted to sit in the aisle all by themselves. It cracked us up how they sat there and clapped for Shamu on their own!
We also went to the Del Mar Fair. The kids had a blast riding rides, eating junk, and playing carnival games.
Paige actually won a carnival game where you have to throw balls into a cup of water. All the kids got 3 balls to throw and Paige's ball went in on the last throw. Her prize? Two goldfish! The boys were so jealous that she won! I was not so happy to have 2 goldfish to cart around. Thinking they wouldn't survive the car ride back to CO, they conveniently got left on my mom's counter when we drove away.
Since the weather was nice but not necessarily hot enough to go to the beach, we took all our bikes to mission bay one day and rode around. Logan and Zack rode the plasma cars and did great, despite how they look in this picture. Paige was mad here because I wasn't letting her pull the wagon. We are definitely in the terrible two's with her!
My kids wanted to play in the water so bad, but Kirsten's kids didn't have swim suits. So, after much convincing, she let her kids go in in their underwear. We looked so ghetto but the kids had a blast!
Needing more heat than San Diego was giving us, Kirsten and I took our kids out to Palm Springs for a couple days. We shared one hotel room (6 kids + 2 adults = crazy fun) and let the kids swim to their hearts content. The resort had a water slide, a little splash park, and multiple pools. The kids thought it was heaven!
Our kids have so much fun together, it was so hard to leave. But after the guys returned from Baja, we packed it up and headed back to CO so Eric could get to Farmington for his next shift. He drove 26 hours up the baja penninsula, 12 hours to Grand Junction, and then another 4 to New Mexico. The poor guy was so tired of driving! But it was worth it for all the fun we had.

Major Catch Up starting with MAY

My blog has suffered the past 3 months because we have been so CRAZY busy!!! Eric opened a new practice in New Mexico, we bought a house in Grand Junction, and have been on two trips. Life is slowly settling down but is no where near the pace I usually expect for summer break. Finally some pictures to document the last 3 months of our lives. Please bear with me!
May started off with a bang with a Borgquist girls trip to Phoenix to celebrate Mother's Day. We actually went the weekend after Mother's Day so we were home to be mothers to our children on the day meant to celebrate such a role :) It was a fabulous weekend - we shopped, layed by the pool, and ate. Seriously, can it get any better? It was great to spend some quality time with my mom and sisters. We need to do it more often!
I came home from Phoenix just in time to celebrate Eric's 35th birthday! I decked him out with his own set of dive gear to prepare for his big baja expedition that was coming up. He is being a dork and sticking out his chest strangely here, don't worry, he isn't deformed in real life.

The next week we moved into our new house!!! We moved out of our rental into a house on 3 acres out in the "country." It's not really the "country" but kind of feels like it sometimes. There are all kinds of ranches and fields around us and we are now 10 minutes from Target instead of 2. Anyway, my mom has been begging for pictures and I am her daughter so I have to obey. Sorry for the onslaught of boring pictures. I haven't taken any pics outside, but you'll get the gist. Everything is super bare still, so don't judge my decorating skills quite yet :)

This is our kitchen - one of my favorite rooms in the house. It is kind of the center of the house and it overlooks the eating area and living room. Going off to the right is the formal dining room, family room, entry, office, pool bathroom, and master suite. To the left are the kids rooms, laundry room, and garage entrance.
Our living room. We bought this new super comfy sectional that is now my new favorite piece of furniture. Now we just need some down time to really relax on it!

My new favorite little chair. I just love to sit here and talk on the phone or write grocery lists. I'm not sure it's Eric's favorite thing, but I just smile whenever I see it.

The eating area off the kitchen.
Here is Paige's room that we painted green and pink. The green looks pretty dark in these pictures, but it doesn't look that dark in real life. Painting this one room has made me realize that we are hiring a painter for all future painting projects (and I have a lot!).
We still have to keep the pack-n-play out for bedtime because Paige isn't so good about staying in her "big girl" bed. Having to be put in the pack-n-play used to be a consequence for Paige getting out of bed, but now she's decided she doesn't want to sleep in her big bed and sleeps in the pack-n-play every night! Guess we got rid of her crib too soon!
The boys room will eventually be a pirate room. They have a pirate shower curtain in their bathroom, but that's all the pirate decor we've collected thus far. It's a work in progress.
New bunk beds are a big hit. We got full size bunks so they can double up when friends or family come to stay. It's come in quite handy already!

My pictures don't do any of our rooms justice. Everything looks much smaller through a camera lens. Anyway, here is our room. We have one picture on the wall but it needs a lot more. This room is so big it's hard to know what to do with it, I think I need a rug.
And I know I definitely need a TV over here on this stand, it's on the list.
This is our family room. Those doors open up to our outdoor patio and pool. So fun for entertaining; except the rug I bought for this room only lets the doors open about a foot because the doors won't fit over the rug. Oops, don't know what to do about that one except buy new doors that swing out. Eric's not too fond of that idea! A situation to be evaluated at a later date...

Our dining room with the awesome furniture my parents graciously gave to me when they got a new set. I love this furniture and was so happy to inherit it. As for the rest of the dining room, I know it's in desperate need of curtains and color. I told you it was bare bones right now!

I just wanted to include this to show the flow of the house. The front door is to the left behind the dining room, the master room is all the way at the far end, the family room is in front of the entry and the kitchen is off to the right. I really love the layout.
This is our office. I love having the computer out of our bedroom, a place to keep all our books, and a comfy chair to sit and read in.
The antelope also somehow made his way in here. Notice how Eric has hung all of about 2 things in this house, and the antelope is one of them. Pics of the exterior will be coming in a subsequent post. We are super happy with our house and would love to have any and all visitors come stay with us.
So that's May all wrapped up. One month down, two to go!!!
